As per The Sun Gascoigne was found semi-conscious in his bedroom by a friend in Poole, Dorset, on Friday evening. The former and midfielder was taken to hospital and admitted to an intensive care unit.

Gascoigne, fondly known as ‘Gazza’ by English football fans, has now been moved to an acute medical unit and is in stable condition. He is set to remain in hospital for the next few days for treatment, but is thought to be out of danger.

Gascoigne was found by his friend Steve Foster, who also works as the 58-year-old’s driver and personal assistant. In a short statement issued on Gascoigne’s behalf, Foster said: “Gazza would like to thank everyone for the support he’s received so far from so many old friends who wish him well and want to see him back to his best. Paul is in hospital, which is the best possible place for him to be right now.”

Gascoigne is widely seen as one of the most talented players of his generation, and enjoyed successful stints at Newcastle, Tottenham, and . He also won 57 caps for England, scoring 10 goals, and played a key role in their run to the semi-finals of the 1990 .
