A number of selected matches during Gameweek 1 will feature the Ref Cams, with the Premier League aiming to make them a permanent feature this season. The technology has been approved by clubs, as well as the top flight’s broadcast partners.

Ref Cams were trialled by FIFA at the Club World Cup in the US this summer, which went down well with fans across the tournament. As a result, the technology is set to be implemented across domestic matches to enhance viewers’ experiences and show the match from a referee’s perspective.

The cameras are attached to the referee’s ear, with a connection to a microphone and transmitter, also part of the gear, in order to send feeds to broadcasters.

There is currently no word on which games with feature Ref Cams, but expect to see a new angle more frequently this season.
