- Spent two years with Juve
- Ex-PSG star back in France
- Rival interest was snubbed
The United States international, who has previously represented Paris Saint-Germain and Lille, finds himself back in French football after spending two years on the books of Serie A giants Juventus.
The 25-year-old is convinced that he has made the right career call, having previously shunned interest from the Premier League, and said at his official unveiling: “There were other clubs, but as soon as they [Marseille] called me, there was only one club. For me, it’s perfect. There’s competition. We know the stadium and the fans.”
Weah was used as a wide forward and wing-back by Juve. Quizzed on his versatility after moving to Stade Velodrome, the New York native said: “I don’t have a favourite position when I arrive at a new club. The coach sees me as a utility player. All I want is to win.”
Having missed Juve’s pre-season amid the questions of his future, Weah admits that he is not ready to make his Marseille bow just yet. He said on his match sharpness: “I won’t be playing in the next friendly match. I need to take some time to work with my team-mates. Then I’ll be 100% ready. I’ll be at the match to see how the team plays and to see the fans. I can’t wait to get there.”
Marseille are set to play host to Aston Villa on Saturday. They will open their 2025-26 Ligue 1 campaign against Rennes on August 15, with Weah preparing to slot into Roberto De Zerbi’s plans alongside the likes of Mason Greenwood and Angel Gomes.
