- McManaman builds personal GOAT
- Goes for R9 in two key categories
- Also pays tribute to four other ex-Real colleagues
In an exclusive interview with BALLGM McManaman was asked to cook up his greatest footballer of all time by choosing players to fill six different categories. He went for Roberto Carlos’ left foot and Ronaldo‘s right, before selecting the former Brazil striker again in the speed section. McManaman then opted for Fernando Hierro’s strength, Zinedine Zidane’s skill and Claude Makelele’s football IQ to complete his dream player.
McManaman played alongside Ronaldo, Carlos, Hierro, Zidane and Makelele at Santiago Bernabeu, after joining Real Madrid from Liverpool in 1999. The Englishman helped Los Blancos win two La Liga titles and two Champions League crowns during his four-year stay at the club.
Ronaldo weighed in on the eternal GOAT debate earlier this year, telling ESPN: “Pelé number 1 without a doubt, Messi and Maradona tied together, Zico, Romário, Cristiano Ronaldo, [Marco] Van Basten, [Zinedine] Zidane, [Luis] Figo, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho Gaúcho, a series of players, there are many great players on this list, and I’m sure I’m forgetting some.”
