Fenerbahce overcame a two-goal deficit to beat Robin van Persie’s Feyenoord and move into the Champions League playoffs. Fred was among the scorers on Tuesday, with an impressive long-range strike, as Jose Mourinho’s men won 5-2 and advanced 6-4 on aggregate.
Fred uploaded a video of the goal to his Instagram account after the match, along with the message: “Special atmosphere tonight to book our spot in the next round. All glory to God!” It didn’t take long for his former team-mate to respond with a post of his own.
Fernandes seemed to be watching from home as he reacted on Instagram with the message: “What is this fredericooooooo?”
Mourinho has now won more European games against Dutch opposition than any other manager in history (11). He has also beaten Feyenoord more often than any other manager in European competition (4 times).
Fernandes and Manchester United are currently preparing for a blockbuster clash with Arsenal on the opening weekend of the Premier League season, a match that Van Persie and Mourinho will no doubt watch with interest given their ties to both clubs.
