- Fernandes open to Man Utd exit
- Would consider Saudi or MLS move
- Won’t happen until next summer
The Daily Mail states that the United skipper is open to leaving United at the end of the 2025-26 campaign, to avoid any disruption before playing for Portugal in the World Cup. After that, though, he would consider a move to Saudi, MLS, or another one of Europe’s major leagues.
Fernandes previously rejected a hugely lucrative offer from Saudi team Al-Hilal earlier this year, with United having no intention of losing their talisman. But in 2026, as Fernandes nears his 32nd birthday, the Red Devils ‘might be prepared’ to listen to offers for the midfielder.
The former Sporting CP star, who has also been linked with Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad, would have one year left on his £280,000-a-week contract at Old Trafford at that point, although United have an option to extend that by an extra 12 months.
While the report states it is ‘unlikely’ that Fernandes will leave this summer, the situation could change if Al-Ittihad makes him a substantial offer before the Saudi transfer window closes on September 10. It is said that the Portuguese could more than quadruple his salary there.
