Calciomercato reported on Tuesday that former Chelsea and Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho wanted Chiesa at Fenerbahce this summer, but the winger had rejected the move as he is prioritising a return to Serie A. The Italy international, who joined Liverpool from Juventus for around €15 million (£13m/$17m) last summer, made just 14 appearances for the club in 2024-25, scoring twice in 466 minutes. Moreover, a mix of injuries, limited game time, and an established attacking hierarchy at Anfield saw him drop down the pecking order. With the 2026 World Cup cycle on the horizon, he wants regular football and thus Serie A is his preferred destination.
Sportmediaset now reports that Atalanta and Napoli are both keen on signing Chiesa but are yet to submit formal bids. With the delay in offers, the Reds are reducing their asking price and their valuation currently stands at €10m (£8.6/$11.5m).
The report adds that Napoli are likely to propose a loan for the 27-year-old with an option to buy him next season for €9m. The Italian champions, however, will ask Liverpool to bear half of his wages. Atalanta are also not in a financial position to match the winger’s €7m per season salary.
Chiesa was left out of Liverpool’s pre-season tour of Asia, and if he wants to head back to his homeland to get more opportunities to play in the 2025-26 campaign, he will likely have to reduce his salary demands.
