legend Brian Laudrup says compatriot Rasmus Hojlund has to leave as he will get very few chances at United this season. The former star believes a loan move may be good for the 22-year-old but not many teams in Serie A – where the bulk of the transfer interest has come from – can afford to sign him permanently.

He told Viaplay, via Tipsbladet: “He has to go. I don’t see that he has any future at the club at all. If you start playing with mostly midfielders as a 9 and you’re left out, that tells me that he won’t get any chances. He has played the aces he had up his sleeve, and there weren’t many of them last season, in a very, very difficult season, so he should go to a new place now, where he’s loved and gets to play. The only thing I don’t like is a loan agreement. I have to be honest. I’ve tried it myself, and it’s not fun, because you always fall down the pecking order when you’re rented, even if there’s someone who’s been bought for many millions. But it may be that the best he can get is a loan agreement, because there aren’t many clubs in that can afford to buy him, that’s the challenge.”

Hojlund previously said he wanted to fight for his spot at United but following the summer arrival of fellow forward Benjamin Sesko, the Dane may struggle for game time this season. The former man has beenlinked with a return to Italy but his reported €35–40 million (£30-£34.5m) price tag may put off suitors.

Hojlund, who was left out of United’s squad for their 1-0 loss to in their opener, may get a clue over his Red Devils future ahead of their clash with on Sunday. If he is left out again, he may need to consider a loan or transfer exit.
