- Liverpool told to sign Guehi
- Guehi in a ‘different league’ compared to Konate
- Reds remain interested in the English defender
Liverpool are among the top spenders in the Premier League this summer as Arne Slot oversaw a major rebuilding of his champion squad. Top players like Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike were added to the roster to bolster the team’s attack, while Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez were signed in the backline. Yet the Reds have struggled defensively, conceding four goals already despite winning their first two Premier League games of the 2025-26 campaign.
The Mirror reported earlier this week that the Merseyside club are still ready to splash £150 million ($202m), as they remain in the hunt for Alexander Isak from Newcastle United, along with Guehi. Former Palace defender and Guehi’s team-mate Tomkins has now urged the Reds to pursue the transfer as he heaped praise on the England international.
Speaking to Boyle Sports, who offer the latest Premier League betting odds, the former Palace star said: “Marc Guehi has been absolutely phenomenal for Palace ever since he’s been there. He’s a great guy as well. So I think it’s inevitable that he’ll leave eventually, whether it’s now, at Christmas, or the end of the season, we don’t know, but I’m pretty sure it’s going to be one of them.
“I’ve always thought he’d fit into Liverpool perfectly. Him and Virgil van Dijk at the back would be pretty solid to see. I actually rate him that much that if Liverpool sign him, they will go and win the league, just because that’s the only place I see Liverpool a little bit weak at the minute, at the back. Ibrahima Konate is a good player and all that, obviously partnering with Virgil, but I think Marc is in a different league, to be honest, so let’s see. I think he could be a massive signing for Liverpool.”
Slot’s men will be back in action this Sunday when they host Arsenal in a blockbuster Premier League clash at Anfield.
