Under their new management, Lyon are looking to void several of former investor John Textor’s pre-agreed deals, including Turner’s move from Forest. According to L’Equipe Lyon have hired lawyers to terminate the €8 million (£7m/$9m) deal in order to comply with financial regulations set by the French football watchdog the Directorate of Management Control (DNCG). Lyon argue that the Turner deal would go against their plans for smart, low-cost investment in players.

Lyon were initially relegated to Ligue 2 by the DNCG due to financial irregularities but reinstated on appeal. Since then, the club have focused on financial stability, highlighted by the departures of Alexandre Lacazette and Rayan Cherki. Lyon now believe the €8m fee for Turner is excessive for a backup goalkeeper and inconsistent with their new financial approach.

Lyon’s reinstatement to has had major implications for , as both clubs were owned by Textor through Eagle Football Holdings.
