- Spurs looking to hijack Chelsea‘s move for Simons
- Determined to sign a new attacking midfielder
- Blues remain favourites to sign Dutchman
According to The Telegraph Tottenham have held discussions over submitting a bid with RB Leipzig to sign Simons this summer, despite the Dutch international being closely linked with a move to Chelsea. Spurs are desperate to add a new playmaker to their squad before the transfer window closes next Monday, after missing out on Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze.
Simons wants to leave RB Leipzig this summer, with his preferred destination being Chelsea, however, the Blues will not be able to complete his signing unless they offload Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku. For now, talks have stalled between the Bundesliga side and the Blues and Spurs want to take advantage of the situation and swoop in and secure a transfer for the 22-year-old.
Chelsea have also kept Barcelona‘s Fermin Lopez in their shortlist of a midfielder in case they miss out on Simons this summer. Spurs, on the other hand, want to first make sure about the Blues’ stance before they come up with a formal offer.
Thomas Frank’s side will be back in action on Saturday as they host Bournemouth in a Premier League clash at Totteham Hotspur Stadium.
