- Bronze shone for England at Euro 2025
- Played the tournament with a fractured tibia
- Morgan full of praise for team-mate
The Lionesses successfully defended their Euro title in Switzerland by beating Spain on penalties in the final. Bronze emerged as one of the stars of England’s campaign, particularly after revealing she played the entire tournament with a fractured tibia.

Bronze also starred in England’s epic win over Sweden in the quarter-finals. The Chelsea star started the comeback by scoring to make it 2-1 and then netted the winning penalty in the shoot-out victory. Morgan, who came on as a substitute in that game and was seen passing Bronze a note, has now joked about what the message to her team-mate contained.
She told ESPN: “When you look around the pitch and see players like Lucy [Bronze], such an incredible leader, incredible competitor, a warrior. A freak, her mindset is like nothing I have ever seen before. She lives for those moments where the team is counting on her, relying on her to pull out a moment of brilliance and that’s what she did to get the goal that started off the comeback. I don’t actually know for certain what was on the note [that she passed to Bronze during the quarterfinal], I didn’t look at it myself. But I joked that it said ‘Save us GOAT’ because Lucy’s just incredible and that’s what she read because she just became a women possessed for the rest of the match and carried us back to the comeback and a penalty through to the semis.”
Bronze is now enjoying a well-deserved break and will look to recover from her injury before returning to action. Chelsea kick off their WSL season on September 5 against Manchester City, while the Lionesses are due to play a friendly against China in November.
