Football General Manager
- Roma are in advanced talks for Echeverri
- City signed him in January 2024
- Italian side pushing for a loan with buy option
According to Sky and Calciomercato Echeverri could leave City after just a few senior appearances, with Roma entering advanced talks for the Argentine midfielder. The Giallorossi want to sign him on loan with an option to buy, aiming to boost Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad with another creative playmaker.
Echeverri joined City from River Plate in January 2024 and spent a year on loan before returning to England. After featuring in the FA Cup final and Club World Cup, he suffered an injury during the tournament in the United States and first-team opportunities may be limited in the coming season. Roma are offering him a clearer path to development and playing time.
The 18-year-old has made only three senior appearances for City so far and faces fierce competition in a stacked squad. Roma, building a strong unit under Gasperini, see him as a perfect fit behind the striker. He’s able to play on either flank or centrally and would join a creative line-up already featuring Dybala, Soule, Baldanzi, and El Aynaoui. Talks have progressed over a loan deal, possibly multi-year, though City have yet to fully approve the terms.
The Giallorossi hope to finalise the deal soon, either on a one-year loan with a buy option or a longer temporary deal. City are still weighing their decision, but Echeverri’s exit looks increasingly likely as Roma push for reinforcements before the season starts.
