The Red Devils’ pursuit of Mbeumo has been one of the longest running stories of the summer, with Brentford adamant the Old Trafford club must meet their £65m valuation. Negotiations are ongoing, but have slowed of late. Reports of Brentford earmarking the Cameroonian’s replacement will therefore be welcomed by United‘s negotiators, who have reportedly been told to wrap up the deal by manager Ruben Amorim.
The highly-rated Hutchinson joined Ipswich permanently from Chelsea in the summer of 2024, ahead of The Tractor Boys’ return to the Premier League. Fabrizio Romano reports the player is on Brentford’s wishlist, but no negotiations have taken place. Ipswich will hope to at least re-coup the £20m they spent to secure the player’s services last summer.

Hutchinson has impressed for both Ipswich and England’s youth teams. The winger started every game for Lee Carsley’s side in Slovakia, scoring a goal in the 3-2 victory over Germany in the final. The 21-year-old initially joined Ipswich on loan in 2023, before making his permanent switch. He has scored 17 goals in 92 appearances for the club.
Hutchinson’s stock has undoubtedly risen after his performances for England at the Euros, and he will view himself as a Premier League-calibre player. A move back into the top tier is likely, but may well rest on suitors moving on their prized assets to fund a transfer. He will be watching the Mbeumo negotiations with baited breath, waiting for that first domino to fall.
