Man Utd eye Real Madrid star with HUGE bid reportedly rejected as Red Devils look to make statement signing for Ruben Amorim

Manchester United have reportedly had a substantial £78 million ($105m) offer for Real Madrid star Aurelien Tchouameni turned down as new manager Ruben Amorim looks to bolster his midfield following the club’s dismal 2024-25 campaign. After finishing in an unprecedented 15th place in the Premier League last season, the Red Devils are under pressure to revamp their squad and initiate a new era under Amorim.

According to Spanish journalist Eduardo Inda Real Madrid have rebuffed ‘s attempt to lure Tchouameni to Old Trafford. He has built a formidable reputation since joining Madrid from AS in 2022 for a fee in excess of £85m ($115m), including bonuses. During his two years at the Bernabeu, he has racked up 146 appearances, helping Los Blancos win both La Liga and the UEFA in 2024.

With Christian Eriksen departing United following the expiration of his contract, there is a glaring hole in the centre of midfield that Amorim is eager to fill. Tchouameni was identified as a strong candidate to take on that responsibility, offering defensive solidity and composure in possession, qualities United lacked during their catastrophic season.

Despite Madrid’s refusal to entertain the current offer, United may return with an improved proposal. However, sources close to the Spanish giants suggest they remain intent on keeping the Frenchman, who is under a long-term contract and continues to be central to Alonso’s plans.

While their reported pursuit of Tchouameni has stalled, United have not been idle in the transfer market. Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha has been the club’s marquee signing so far, arriving from Wolves in a £62.5m ($84m) deal. Another name high on United’s transfer wish list is attacker Bryan Mbeumo. The Cameroon international has been the subject of two failed bids from United, with the most recent believed to be in the region of £60 million. They will return to action with a clash against next Saturday in a pre-season friendly, which will offer Amorim an early opportunity to assess his squad in a match setting and begin implementing his tactical blueprint.
