- Liverpool eyeing a new No.9
- Nunez could be sold this summer
- Isak on Reds’ shortlist of strikers
According to The Athletic a move might be sanctioned for Darwin Nunez amid strong interest from Napoli and Al-Hilal. Luis Diaz has also attracted interest from Bayern Munich and Barcelona, but the feeling at Anfield is that the Colombian will stay. Thus, Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes is prioritising a new No.9 in a bid to bolster Arne Slot’s squad even further.
The report adds that the Reds have prepared a five-man shortlist of forwards, which includes Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen and Nicolas Jackson. However, Gyokeres and Ekitike are on the verge of sealing respective moves to Arsenal and Newcastle, while Osimhen is being tipped to join Galatasaray on a permanent transfer.
Arne Slot’s side played their first pre-season friendly against Preston on Sunday, where Federico Chiesa was tried out in the No.9 role. New signings Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez were also given game time later in the match.
The reigning English champions will now travel to Asia for their pre-season tour and are scheduled to face AC Milan next in Hong Kong on July 26, before taking on Yokohama F. Marinos four days later in Japan. It remains to be seen whether Liverpool will formalise their interest in Isak or any of their other No.9 targets.
