- أرسنال fans create viral chant
- Song references striker’s reported breakup
- Gyokeres delivers blunt seven-word reply
Arsenal’s new £64 million striker Viktor Gyokeres has already been given his own chant by Gunners fans – but it has caused a bit of a stir. Supporters have been singing to the tune of Salt-N-Pepa’s Push It, with the viral lyrics including: “He dumped his girlfriend, to play in red and white.” The line refers to reports that the 27-year-old split from Portuguese actress Ines Aguiar earlier this summer, with suggestions the decision came as he prepared to complete his move from نادي سبورتينغ لشبونة to north London.
Portuguese outlet TV Guia claimed in June that Gyokeres ended his relationship with Aguiar before heading on holiday to Mykonos, while she travelled to Formentera. The same report alleged he told her he “didn’t want anything to tie him to البرتغال” while pushing for a الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز switch. Neither Gyokeres nor Aguiar has spoken publicly about the split, although they continue to follow each other on social media.
Speaking to Swedish outlet Sportbladet Gyokeres praised Arsenal fans before being pressed specifically on the chant. “They have been absolutely incredible,” he said. “They have shown me an incredible amount both during and outside of the games. I am extremely grateful for that.”
But on the viral song, his answer was short and sharp: “I have no comments about the song.”
Gyokeres has scored twice for Arsenal since joining from Sporting but endured a tough outing at Anfield last weekend, where he was shackled by Ibrahima Konate in a 1-0 defeat to ليفربول. The السويد international will now turn his attention to كأس العالم qualifiers against Slovenia and Kosovo as his country look to consolidate top spot in their group.
