- PSV defeat Go Ahead Eagles 2-1, win Dutch Super Cup
- USMNT defender Dest scores game-winner
- Pepi comes off bench to help secure victory
U.S. men’s national team defender Sergino Dest scored the winning goal for PSV on Sunday as they lifted the Dutch Super Cup – the Johan Cruyff Shield – defeating Go Ahead Eagles 2-1.
On Dest’s strike, an 84th-minute effort, he drove up the right flank into the box before making an inverted run. Once the ball landed at his feet, he hit it first time with his left foot, driving a curling effort into the bottom corner of the net.
The strike capped off a two-goal comeback for PSV, with two late scores securing the trophy that pits the reigning Dutch KNVB Cup winners against the Eredivisie Champions, ahead of the start of the domestic campaign.
Fellow U.S. international Ricardo Pepi featured in the match as well, coming off the bench in the 62nd minute to help steer PSV to victory.

Dest missed the majority of the 2024-25 season for PSV with an ACL tear that he sustained in April of last year. He returned to action in March, but suffered a few setbacks across spring into summer, including one that forced him out of contention for the USMNT at the 2025 Gold Cup.
Across preseason for PSV, he featured in friendlies against Union St. Gilloise and Athletic Club, and Sunday marked his first competitive appearance of the campaign.
If healthy, he’s a name that USMNT manager Mauricio Pochettino could rely on in the run-up to the 2026 FIFA كأس العالم. Internationally, Dest has made 32 appearances, scoring two goals and recording five assists. He was a member of the 2022 FIFA World Cup squad.
PSV begin their regular season campaign next weekend as they open against Sparta Rotterdam on Aug. 9. They’ll be searching for their third-straight Eredivisie title.
