Trabzonspor lodge offer

According to reports by Takvim in Turkey, Trabzonspor have made a loan offer for Onana. The Turkish transfer window remains open until September 12, meaning there is still time to complete a move before the deadline. Onana is reportedly a ‘flash name’ target for the Turkish giants after goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir was sold to earlier this summer for €36 million (£31m/$42m).

Onana is yet to feature for United in the in the new season, only seeing action in the Red Devils’ shocking penalty shootout defeat to جانب Town in the EFL Cup second round. While a recent return from injury for Onana may be pointed to as the reason for Altay Bayindir beginning the season in goal, the international’s future was put further into jeopardy when 23-year-old Senne Lammens arrived from for £18m ($24m) on deadline day.

With the majority of Europe’s top leagues seeing their transfer windows close on September 1 along with the Premier League, there are few remaining options for Onana if he does want to start a new chapter away from Old Trafford. A move to Turkey may, therefore, be seen as an attractive prospect for the 29-year-old.

The future of Onana will be one to keep a keen eye on over the next nine days. While there is no guarantee Lammens is instantly ready to start in the Premier League and Bayindir has also come under intense scrutiny, the Cameroon international may view his position at Old Trafford as untenable and seek to begin a new challenge elsewhere. Onana has previously expressed a desire to stay and fight for a starting place at United, however.
