- Lewandowski wants to continue his journey with Barcelona
- Determined to be at his best for coach Hansi Flick
- Ready to reject Saudi interest despite club’s stance
The Polish striker’s contract with Barca is set to expire in 2026. This has raised a lot of speculation surrounding him, but the 36-year-old has now decided to repay the club’s trust by respecting his contract and staying in Spain, according to Sport. The ex-Bayern Munich forward is determined to be an integral part of Hansi Flick’s system and has started training extensively to retain his starting position at the Spanish club.
Saudi Arabian clubs made enquiries about Lewandowski’s situation through his agent, Pini Zahavi, but were quickly rebuffed as the Pole had already decided to stay in Spain. The forward had an amazing 2024-25 season, scoring 42 goals and registering three assists to help the club win La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Supercopa de Espana. However, the Barca striker was devastated by the club’s defeat in the Champions League semi-final.
The Spanish side would not have stood in the veteran’s way had he decided to leave, as getting his wages off their books would improve the club’s financial situation. The forward will reportedly cost around €13 million (£11m/$15m) to Barca in the upcoming season but the feeling inside the camp is to let him continue as he has shown that he can change the game and be an important cog in the wheel for Flick’s Barca.
Lewandowski and Barca are fully focused on their upcoming campaign and it is very unlikely that the situation is going to change. Barcelona will face Como in the Joan Gamper trophy before kicking-off their La Liga season on August 16 against Mallorca.
