The first pitted Steven Gerrard against Xabi Alonso, Jamie Carragher against Virgil van Dijk, Salah against لويس Diaz, and Sadio Mane against Roberto Firmino. Jones then chose Gerrard ahead of Van Dijk, before opting for Firmino over current team-mate Salah. Gerrard got the nod in the final round as Jones admitted the former Liverpool captain was his “idol” when he was growing up.
