After failing to cement a starting role at Inter Miami – under either Gerardo Martino or Javier Mascherano – Federico Redondo is ready to try his luck in Spain with Elche, who will sign him on a five-year deal.
The 22-year-old midfielder is already in the city with his representatives, finalizing the last details of his contract, according to Diario Olé. Inter Miami sold 50 percent of Redondo’s rights for $2.5 million.
Born in Madrid, Redondo came through the ranks at Argentinos Juniors, making his professional debut in 2022 and appearing in 49 official matches for the club. His performances earned him a move to MLS in February 2024, where he joined Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Luis Suárez.
However, following the arrival of Rodrigo De Paul, the strong form of Yannick Bright and the undroppable status of Busquets, Redondo saw his playing time dwindle.
Redondo will continue the family legacy in Spain, joining Elche in LaLiga just like his father, Fernando, who starred for Real Madrid between 1994 and 2000. The 22-year-old midfielder is also the nephew of Santiago Solari, reinforcing his deep football roots.
The Herons host LA Galaxy on Saturday as they look to bounce back from a 4-1 defeat to Orlando City.
