Dortmund have initiated talks with Barcelona regarding the transfer of highly-rated La Masia midfielder Guille, according to a report from Football Espana. Dortmund have enquired about the teenager’s contractual situation and whether a deal is possible. Barcelona have no intention of selling the player permanently and would only consider a loan deal.

Fernandez is widely considered one of the top talents to emerge from Barcelona’s academy in recent years. While the club is focused on player exits to ease registration issues, manager Hansi Flick intends to keep Fernandez as part of the first-team setup for the 2025-26 season. However, with less than two years remaining on his contract, the situation could change if Fernandez expresses a desire to leave. Barcelona could be forced to cash in if he is unwilling to sign a new deal, which he can do when he turns 18 next summer. The club would likely seek to include a buy-back clause and/or a significant sell-on clause to retain control over the starlet’s future.

At 15 years, 9 months, and 12 days, Fernandez became the youngest player to debut for Barcelona’s reserve team, Barcelona Atletic, in April 2024. He also became the second-youngest player to debut in the UEFA Youth League, behind only Lamine Yamal.

The 17-year-old’s immediate future is uncertain. While Barcelona are keen to keep him, his decision will be crucial. With Flick reportedly counting on him, he could get opportunities with the first team, but he faces competition for minutes in a stacked midfield. He is also a key player for Barcelona Atlètic and featured in their preseason matches.
