After being named in PFA’s Premier League Team of the Year for the 2024-25 campaign, Isak took to social media to release a statement. He thanked the PFA for the honour and then launched into a long rant against his current employers, while claiming his relationship with Newcastle is over.
Several Premier League fans took to social media to slam the striker’s attitude as they labelled his gesture as disrespectful. Isak’s Sweden team-mate Robin Olsen, however, came to the striker’s defence as the goalkeeper claimed that the entire Magpies episode had not affected their friendship.
Speaking to Fotboll Skanalen Olsen said: “I’m not familiar with it, so I don’t actually have much to say about it. Not for me, absolutely not. He’s a very good friend so no, it’s nothing that affects our friendship.”
After their season opener, manager Eddie Howe had urged the Magpies to resolve the Isak issue as early as possible. It now remains to be seen what steps the club take, following the public outburst by their star forward.
