Veiga’s short stint with the Bianconeri last season was enough for general manager Damien Comolli and head coach Igor Tudor to see his untapped potential. The Serie A side wanted to sign the Portuguese defender permanently but were swiftly turned down by Chelsea. However, Juve have renewed their interest and are again looking for ways to bring the 22-year-old to Turin, according to TuttoSport. Juve will have to act quick as Atletico Madrid are also interested in signing Veiga.
Veiga didn’t take long to fit in the Juve team last season. The injury-laden backline gave the Portuguese more chances to shine, and with Tudor’s confidence, he displayed some amazing performances before getting injured in February. The Italian club are now looking into options to sign the defender or at least bring him on loan. However, to generate funds for Veiga’s transfer, the club will first have to sell a defender, and the one who is being touted to be sold is Kelly.
Juve’s defensive line has still not significantly improved from last season, with Gleison Bremer and Juan Cabal working on their rehabilitation after suffering ACL injuries last season. Kelly, whom they permanently signed from Newcastle, is not an integral part of the team, and Tudor is willing to part ways with the defender in a bid to get Veiga. Additionally, the club are also seeking to offload Daniele Rugani and Tiago Djalo after his underwhelming spell with Porto.
The Portuguese defender is also interested in moving to Turin. The player still has Juve listed alongside Chelsea in his Instagram bio, and the fact that the Blues didn’t take him to the Club World Cup campaign has made him more determined to pursue a move to his preferred destination. However, for Juve, being financially strong is the main priority. To manage the books and make more sales, Comolli is staying behind in Italy to make some major moves as the club will fly to Germany for their next pre-season match against Borussia Dortmund on August 10.
