According to reports by Mail Sport, Real Betis are preparing to submit a fresh offer for Antony within ‘the next 24 hours’, as some clarity may finally come at the end of a confusing summer for the Man reject. An initial loan proposal was rejected earlier in the summer, but we may soon find out if an improved offer is accepted by the Red Devils hierarchy.

Following his return from a successful loan spell with Betis last season, Antony has been a part of Ruben Amorim’s infamous ‘bomb squad’ this summer and is not a part of the Portuguese’s plans at Old Trafford. Should a move not go through before the deadline, it is unclear what the £85million ($116m) flop’s future will be. From the club’s perspective, recouping a transfer fee for one of their biggest-ever purchases is paramount after the money which has been spent on new signings in attacking positions this summer.

Speaking recently on the future of Antony, Real Betis manager Manuel Pellegrini said, “I’ve not spoken with Antony. We all know that he was very good here; we want him with us, and Antony wants to return, no doubt. But we also need the owner, which is , to make a decision.”

Antony scored nine goals in all competitions on loan at Betis and will hope to return to similar goalscoring form back at the La Liga side if a move does ultimately go through. It is believed that Antony only wants Betis, but he may need to consider other options if the clubs cannot agree on a fee. It is difficult to see how he could be reintegrated at Old Trafford should this fail.
