- Laporte to end battle with Al-Nassr
- Defender has interest from former club and Como
- Fabregas wants experience in defence
After the duel between Laporte and Al-Nassr, where the Saudi Arabian outfit was forcing the Spanish defender to stay and only feature in the continental competitions, the 31-year-old is now expected to terminate his contract with them soon. And according to Gianluca Di Marzio, Como have emerged as another suitor, along with Athletic, who are highly interested in a reunion with the Spaniard.
Laporte, a member of the Spain national squad under Luis de la Fuente, spent the last two seasons in the Saudi Pro League, featuring for Al-Nassr. Athletic were interested in signing the player and wanted to execute the deal during the defender’s stay in Portugal during the off-season. Manager Jorge Jesus and sporting director Simao Coutinho had clarified that the defender would not continue at the club, but the move to Athletic was blocked over a fiasco regarding the €25 million (£22m/$29m) salary. Afterwards, Al-Nassr went furious with the player demanding a contract termination which would enable Athletic to sign the defender for free. Meanwhile, Como are assessing Laporte’s situation as Fabregas wants an experienced defender to lead his team’s backline.
Laporte spent six seasons at Athletic, after spending some stints with the club’s reserves and U-19 sides.
After ending his tenure at Al-Nassr, Laporte would have two options at his disposal. He will now be evaluating the offers to determine which is the best for him.
