- Gallas: Arsenal have "more chance to win things"
Gallas was speaking with Gambling Zone about Eze’s move. The Crystal Palace star has decided to snub Tottenham in favour of their north London rivals, with the Gunners and Eagles agreeing a £67.5m ($90m) deal late last night. Eze had reportedly agreed personal terms with Spurs before making his decision.
The ex-Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea defender commented on Eze’s thought process in the move. Gallas suggested it will be difficult for the 27-year-old to go from being the main man in south London, to a more competitive squad at Arsenal. However, Gallas suggests this decision is an indication that Eze is prioritising competitive success over personal game time by eschewing Daniel Levy and Thomas Frank’s advances.
Gallas said: “It’s always the same question in this situation. What does the player really want? You know, he will try to see what is in the best interest for himself. It’ll be about money. It will be about if he will have enough time, enough minutes to play.
“If you’re Eze, you don’t want to go from Crystal Palace, where you were the main guy, to move to one of the biggest clubs if you’re not going to play much. You don’t want to join a club and become frustrated with your minutes.
“Eze will try to find the best solution for himself. Even if Spurs won the Europa League last year, you probably have more chances to win things at Arsenal over the next few years.
“Arsenal got close to winning the Champions League last year, but then they came up against Paris Saint-Germain and made a mistake – they didn’t take their chances and were punished. So it really depends on how he sees his career. Does he want to play every week or does he want to get his hands on more trophies?”
Earlier this week, Oliver Glasner said Eze and Marc Guehi would both feature in Crystal Palace’s Conference League tie against Norwegian side Fredrikstad FK. It’s a credit to both players that both remain committed to their club in the face of imminent transfer deals; Guehi has been heavily linked with Liverpool in the past few days.
