- El Khannouss could join Spurs
- Palace also keen on Leicester star
- Spurs missed out on Eze earlier in the week
In what would be another stunning transfer twist this summer, it has been revealed Tottenham are keen on Leicester’s Morocco international El Khannouss, the player Palace had lined-up to replace Eberechi Eze, according to Africa Foot. Daniel Levy is handling negotiations for the Belgium-born attacking midfielder who is just 20 years old.
It’s been a shocking week for Spurs after Eze was unveiled as an Arsenal player ahead of the clash Leeds. And it’s not a case of giving Palace a taste of their own medicine as Eze made the choice to join the Gunners himself. El Khannouss made 32 appearances for the Foxes last term and scored two goals, but would represent another ‘development’ player in the Spurs squad, rather than a ready-made starter.
One of El Khannouss’ former coaches at Genk, Michel Ribeiro, was most impressed with his awareness on the ball. Ribeiro said: “I used to tell people that he had eyes in his back, because he sees everything. When you watch him, you see he is always checking around him and looking over his shoulders. That was something I talked about with him when he began starting for the first-team at Genk, that he needed to constantly check his back. They call it ‘scanning’ but, for me, it’s just checking your shoulders to see where the spaces are.”
EL Khannouss will learn his fate very soon as the transfer window closes on September 1. Spurs will aim to beat Palace to the punch beforehand.
