- Gittens signs for Chelsea
- Winger excited to get started
- Takes on iconic No.11 jersey
Chelsea have confirmed that the former Borussia Dortmund winger has selected the number 11 jersey ahead of potentially playing for the Blues for the first time as Enzo Maresca’s side prepares to face Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan this weekend.
The 20-year-old is taking on a jersey that has been worn by Chelsea legends such as Dennis Wise and Didier Drogba. If the England Under-21 international can forge a career anything like those two, he will have proven to be an excellent signing.
Before Gittens settled at Dortmund, the Reading-born player spent time in the academies of Reading, Chelsea, and Manchester City. Off the back of scoring 12 goals for the German outfit last season, the 5ft 9in wideman will hope to star for Chelsea this term.
Gittens could make his first Chelsea run-out on Friday at home to Bayer Leverkusen, before rounding off their pre-season campaign against AC Milan on Sunday. The Blues kickstart the Premier League season at home to Crystal Palace on August 17.
