According to AS Gonzalo is expected to sign a contract extension with Madrid until 2030, replacing his previous €50 million (£43m/$55m) buyout clause with a staggering €1 bn (£850m/$1.1bn) figure. The 21-year-old forward, fresh from winning the Club Golden Boot with four goals, has secured his place in the first-team squad. Premier League giants had expressed strong interest, but both player and club were determined to continue together.

The young striker’s breakout came after injuries to and illness to Kylian Mbappe opened the door for him to start under Xabi Alonso. His aerial ability, composure, and relentless work rate impressed both team-mates and coaches. He already has five goals in 12 senior appearances and has already been compared to club legend Raul.

Garcia could take the No.9 jersey ahead of the new season, with the iconic shirt currently vacant after Mbappe opted to switch to the No. 10 jersey. Gonzalo has already scored at youth international level for and is tipped by many in Los Blancos’ academy to follow in Raul’s footsteps as a homegrown striker.

Gonzalo will look to add to his goal tally when Madrid face in La Liga on August 20 at the Santiago Bernabeu. Fans will be eager to see if the young striker continues his rapid rise.
