- Man Utd trying to offload Garnacho
- Chelsea long-term admirers
- Blues strike £40m agreement
According to Fabrizio Romano, Garnacho will join Chelsea for a fee close to £40m ($54m) on a seven-year deal. He adds that the winger only wanted the Blues, and now he is set to move to the Stamford Bridge outfit.
Chelsea have been interested in the Argentine international since January but that interest has intensified after tensions flared between Garnacho and United head coach Ruben Amorim at the end of last season. It was crystal clear that the 21-year-old did not have a future at the Red Devils after being jettisoned to their ‘bomb squad’ earlier this summer but now the academy product will head for pastures new. The Blues have secured one of their main targets before the transfer window shuts, and United can pocket a healthy amount of money in their coffers.
Garnacho, who still has nearly three years left on his United contract, made his Red Devils debut in the 2021-22 season. To date, he has chalked up 144 appearances for the club, scoring 26 goals and adding 22 assists along the way.
With the summer transfer window set to shut on September 1, it seems Chelsea will secure Garnacho’s services before then. It remains to be seen, though, if they will be able to sign their other top target, RB Leipzig‘s Xavi Simons, before the deadline. Plus, Tottenham are trying to hijack that deal.
