- Leipzig extend Nedeljkovic’s contract
- Right-back appeared 10 times in Bundesliga last term
- Sporting director Schafer praises teenager
According to a report by Sport1 RB Leipzig have added another year to Serbian right-back Nedeljkovic’s loan period, who joined the Bundesliga outfit last February from Aston Villa. Sporting director Michael Schafer spoke highly of the talented 19-year-old whom the club believes to be the right fit for them, both mentally and in terms of their playing style.
Rising from the ranks of Red Star Belgrade, Nedeljkovic signed for Villa back in January 2024. However, he did not feature much at Villa Park and enjoyed most of his playing time on loan at other clubs, specifically, Red Star and Leipzig. He spent the first half of the previous season at Villa, representing them five times in the Premier League and securing two short cameos in the Champions League. However, his move to the Bundesliga in February proved crucial, as he played 10 matches for Leipzig in this period, and impressed the think-tank.
Leipzig sporting director Schafer said: “Kosta quickly settled in at RB Leipzig after his arrival in the winter and impressively brought his skills to the pitch. He combines dynamism, game intelligence, and the desire to constantly develop.”
The 19-year-old Serbian international, who has seven caps for his country, will now join the club’s pre-season camp, which has already commenced on July 14.
