- Bayern Munich made move for Garnacho
- Garnacho prefers move to Chelsea
- The Argentine is training away from first team
The Bundesliga giants plotted a move for Garnacho, who has been told he is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford. However, Chelsea remain firm favourites to land his signature, as he decided to turn down the offer from the German champions, according to Fabrizio Romano. United boss Amorim told the winger to find a new club at the end of last season and left him out of the matchday squad in the season opener against Arsenal.
It’s been a difficult few months for Garnacho, his public spat with Amorim came after he was introduced as a 71st-minute sub against Tottenham in the Europa League final defeat. He was then left out of the pre-season tour of the USA, the squad against Arsenal and has been training separate to the first team. A £50 million ($67m) move to Chelsea seems likely, but he would have stiff competition to land a place with the vast array of attacking talent at Stamford Bridge.
Manchester United legend Nicky Butt has called Garnacho out for his mentality: “He’s [Amorim] certainly found Garnacho had the wrong attitude, the wrong way of behaving. It was only the other day he was getting a tattoo while vaping, so he’s 100% right with that one. He’s got to make sure he cracks down on that one and, you know, Garnacho has done OK, but he’s no superstar. He’s not some world class player that we’re going to lose.”
The writing’s on the wall for Garnacho at Old Trafford, but he has a massive opportunity to start again at Stamford Bridge. We are yet to see the very best of him during his time in the Premier League and the issues he’s faced have led to him being dropped by Argentina. With a World Cup coming around the corner, he must have regular first-team football. Chelsea could hold the answer.
