- Marseille set to sell Rabiot & Rowe after one season
- De Zerbi questioned Frenchman’s commitment
- Rabiot and Rowe serving suspension
Rabiot and Rowe did not attend Marseille training on Monday after being handed a suspension by the club on disciplinary grounds. RMC Sport had earlier reported that the suspension will be for a short period of time and the duo might be asked to make a donation to the Marseille Foundation as punishment.
However, the situation escalated on Tuesday as RTL reported that manager De Zerbi wants Rabiot out of the club this summer amid questions over his commitment. Rabiot’s mother and agent Veronique was informed by OM about the midfielder’s suspension and his lawyer was later told that the French giants are looking to part ways with him.
Later on Tuesday, the Ligue 1 side put Rabiot AND Rowe on the transfer list. An official statement from the club read: “Olympique de Marseille announces that Adrien Rabiot and Jonathan Rowe have been placed on the transfer list by the club. This decision was taken due to unacceptable behaviour in the dressing room after the match against Stade Rennais FC, in agreement with the technical staff and in accordance with the club’s internal code of conduct. The decision was communicated to the two players by the club on Monday.”
Mason Greenwood and his team-mates got off to a nightmare start to the new season as they dropped three important points against a side who were reduced to 10 men just past the half-hour mark.
Marseille will be back in action on August 23 as they host newly promoted Paris FC in an important Ligue 1 clash. They will be expected to pick up their first win of the campaign.
