- Chilwell wanted by Strasbourg
- Chelsea try to sell left-back
- Not part of Maresca’s plans
According to journalist Mike McGrath, Strasbourg are considering a late summer transfer window move for the 28-year-old. They are not the only team to register interest in the England international, though, as Torino and Roma are said to be keeping tabs on him.
Chelsea forked out £45 ($61m) million to sign Chilwell from Leicester City back in 2020 but after impressing in his first season there, it has pretty much been downhill ever since. Last season, he played just once for the Blues, in what has been an injury-hit spell, before being loaned out to Crystal Palace. Now, a Stamford Bridge exit beckons.
BlueCo, a consortium led by Todd Boehly, Clearlake Capital, Mark Walter, and Hansjorg Wyss, owns both Chelsea and Strasbourg. Last season, Djordje Petrovic and Andrey Santos swapped the Blues for the Ligue 1 outfit on loan, and this term, Mathis Amougou and Ishe Samuels-Smith joined Strasbourg from the Stamford Bridge side permanently. Meanwhile, Mamadou Sarr was signed by Chelsea this summer before heading back to Liam Rosenior’s team on loan. Ergo, this partnership continues to bear fruit.
Chilwell, who still has just under two years left on his lucrative Chelsea contract, is running out of time to secure a move to pastures new this summer. The transfer window shuts on September 1, so there isn’t long for him to line up a transfer exit.
