Guehi was set to move to Liverpool on deadline day, after the Reds agreed a £35 million ($48m) deal, but the Eagles pulled the plug on the deal at the eleventh hour, reportedly due to concerns over Oliver Glasner’s future as manager, although he has denied such suggestions. That has led to suggestions that the England defender could instead move on a free transfer next summer, with multiple clubs said to be interested.
United have been linked with a move for Guehi previously,in 2024, but did not formalise that interest. Now, former defender Wes Brown has urged the club to reignite their pursuit of the defender and beat the Reds to the punch.
Brown told OLBG: “I don’t see why not. I’m not sure if he’s got a preferred team out of them. Who he would support, whether it’s Liverpool or United in that sense.
“He would cost a lot of money though, but it would be brilliant to see him in a Man United shirt. Like I said, I think he’s done everything he’s needed to do to prove to get to that top level.
“Now he will probably himself individually, be looking at can he win stuff, can he be battling in Champions League, can he be battling for leagues, FA Cups.
“I think that’s one thing, going ahead in his career now he’ll be looking to be able to do.”
Guehi has a decision to make, with his contract expiring in 2026. He appears firmly focused on playing at the 2026 World Cup, having scored for England against Serbia in the most recent international break.
