- Liverpool might end up retaining Nunez
- Napoli desperate to sign the striker
- Reds firm on their valuation of the striker
According to Corriere dello Sport the Reds are not ready to reduce their demand of €60m for Nunez, despite strong interest from Italian champions Napoli. Nunez has been deemed surplus to Arne Slot’s needs ahead of the 2025-26 campaign, but the striker could stay back at Anfield if the deadlock does not resolve quickly.
Napoli boss Antonio Conte is an admirer of the Uruguayan forward and has reportedly made him his number one transfer target. The Italian giants have made an offer worth €50m plus €5m in bonuses, but the Reds ‘aren’t budging an inch’, the report adds.
Another issue that persists is Nunez’s wage demand. The striker currently earns €5.5m (£5m/$6.5m) at Anfield and is demanding €6m (£5m/$7m), while Napoli are offering a little less than that. Sporting director Manna is all set to meet the player’s agent Fali Ramadani on Monday to discuss the financial aspects of the deal.
The reigning English champions will play their first pre-season friendly against Preston on Sunday before heading to Hong Kong and Japan.
