Liverpool have been linked with Rodrygo amid reports he is free to leave Madrid this summer. But after Chiesa came off the bench to score in the Reds’ 4-2 win over Bournemouth on Friday, The Mirror states that the Italian will stay at Anfield and a Rodrygo pursuit is unlikely.
Chiesa had a very underwhelming first season at Liverpool, although injuries and a lack of game time didn’t help his cause. But his superb strike against the Cherries has meant he has ‘won over his team-mates’. The report adds the winger is well-liked in Slot’s dressing room, so Arsenal and Manchester City can fight it out for Rodrygo.
The 27-year-old made just 14 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions last season, scoring two goals along the way. He played just six times in the Premier League last term but the Italian will hope for more action this campaign.
It remains to be seen if Arsenal or City will make a move for Rodrygo before the transfer window shuts on September 1. Meanwhile, Chiesa will hope to feature again for Liverpool away to Newcastle United on August 25.
