- Lukaku out until November
- Napoli have only Lorenzo Lucca up front
- Conte’s side targeting new forward signing
Napoli confirmed through a statement that Lukaku would be sidelined until November, and recent reports suggested that they would go after a new forward before the window closes on August 31. As per the latest developments and according to Tutto Napoli, Conte’s side have named Manchester United forwards Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund in the list, with the other Premier League striker being Chelsea‘s Nicolas Jackson.
Napoli had two prominent centre-forwards heading into the season, in the form of Lukaku and Lucca, who joined on loan from Udinese. They have sent Argentine forward Giovanni Simeone on loan to Torino and sold Italian versatile attacker Giacomo Raspadori to Atletico Madrid. Now, with only one striker in hand, Napoli have enquired about Zirkzee, Hojlund, and Jackson, aiming to bring one of them to the club.
The advantage for Napoli is that both United and Chelsea might evaluate a significant offer for their players, because with the arrival of Benjamin Sesko at United and Liam Delap at Chelsea, the aforementioned trio are expected to have fallen out of the pecking order.
Napoli have 13 days to finalize a replacement for the injury-struck Lukaku. They play their Serie A opener against Sassuolo on August 23.
