Rodrygo was strongly linked with a move away from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window after he fell out of favour under new boss Xabi Alonso. The Brazilian hardly featured at the Club World Cup in the US and was then left out on the bench in the club’s La Liga season opener against Osasuna, which further fuelled speculation that he could leave Los Blancos.
At one point, it seemed that Rodrygo could head to the Premier League, with giants like Manchester City and Liverpool keen to add the attacker to their rosters. Franco Mastantuno’s arrival at the club also meant that Rodrygo with further fall in the pecking order, however, Marcanow reports that the winger has decided to stay back at the Spanish club after finally winning Xabi Alonso’s trust. The 24-year-old featured in Los Blancos’ starting lineup in their second game of the season against Oviedo last week.
Rodrygo wanted to earn regular game time this season to win back Carlo Ancelotti’s trust and feature for the Brazil national team at the 2026 World Cup. While for now, he has decided to stay put, he could opt to move out in January if does not get his desired opportunity in the next few months.
Alonso’s side will be next seen in action against Mallorca in La Liga on Saturday at the Santiago Bernabeu.
