According to L’Equipe Wrexham have enquired about the availability of Welsh midfielder James as they look to sign the Rennes star for a fee in the region of €5 million (£4.3m/$5.8m). The Red Dragons, however, will face competition from club Parma, who want the player on loan this season with an option to buy.

James moved to Rennes last summer from Birmingham City. Before his transfer to the , the 21-year-old had attracted interest from several clubs across Europe, although he eventually headed to . He appeared in 25 matches across all competitions last season, where he scored one goal.

James was an unused substitute in Rennes’ season opener against , where they defeated Mason Greenwood and his colleagues 1-0.
